What is genre?
A genre is a specific type of film. It depends what turn a film will take, the storyline the costumes and the sound. For example, a horror film will be very scary, with a variety of strange costumes with fake blood splattered all over it, and the sound effects and music will have to add to that creepy nature. The description I just gave of a horror film is a genre trope, it's a cliche, something that is often paired with the genre, what you expect to see.Genres can even have sub-genres( a sub-division of a genre of film), hybrid-genres (a genre in films that blends themes and elements from other genres) or could even create a new one all together.
